The 2014 Challenge was started on TC1 in January and we just now moved it over to TC3. I will soon be posting the status from TC1 on the next post. I realize time is short, but it is still possible to win cool prizes. Just for entering you could win a Tshirt through a lottery even if you don't finish any levels, so show your support by adding your post to this thread. Here is the Challenge Rules:
2014 TerraCaching Challenge
2014 is a year of hope and excitement for TerraCaching. We are excited to continue our movement forward and to you as part of our community. Check out our new logo and items in the store! We have created the 2014 TerraCaching Challenge, which will encompass several areas of the site. The valid dates of participation in this challenge are January 1, 2014 until December 31, 2014. So any cache that is hid, or found between these dates will qualify.
Level One:
1. 1) Register your participation in this thread by posting that you are in the Challenge. 2) Hide 14 new caches in 2014 (at least 7 must be traditional) and post links to the caches in this thread. Level One Prizes: Lotto Prizes will be selected from all qualified challengers- 7 winners will be awarded an assortment of Vintage TerraCaching Goodies. A sample of this lotto prize is shown in the picture below.
Level Two:
1. 1) Complete Level One. 2) Find 14 caches in 2014 (at least 7 must be traditional, unless your country does not have that many) post the links in this thread. Level Two Prizes: Lotto Prizes will be selected from all qualified challengers- 3 winners will be awarded Swiss Army Champ Knife.
L Level Three:
1 1) Complete Level Two. 2) Be First to Find on 3 traditional, locationless or cyber TerraCaches. Encourage your friends to join our community! Invite 3 people to join the site and tell us the following information: 1. Their username. 2. How you know them, they can be people who just joined your downline and you are just now getting to know them. 3. What is their favorite part of caching? These can be members that you recently sponsored, just PM them to ask them the questions. Level Three Prizes: Lotto Prizes will be selected from all qualified challengers- 3 winners will be awarded Jawbone Up 24.
Grand Prize: One Lotto Prize to be drawn from all three levels of qualified challengers- the more levels completed, the higher chance of winning the grand prize of a DeLorme inReach SE.
Thanks for joining us on our journey, and keep caching For the Love of the Hunt! Get ready we will post a 2015 Challenge along the same lines. We plan to post the finds and hides on the Featured Caches Section.

Hi CashI would like to take part in this challenge. Time is running short but I will do my best to reach level one.Geirr30 Points 3

Geirr,You are a lot closer than you think you have 9 Hides (need 5 more traditionals) to finish Level 1, you have 12 finds needing only 2 more traditionals to finish level 2, and I need your help on if you have any FTF. Don't forget to post about 3 new members you either brought to the site or sponsored. I am betting you can get this accomplished. To the Community: Please let me know if I am missing any caches to give you credit. Please post or send an email to [email protected]10 Points 1
-
The problem is that I only have one traditional close by :-( There is a 550 km drive one way to get to the next. The effort must be to reach level one. It is the best thing for me to do in order to make it all more attractive for beginners.
But good luck to all you other folks.10 Points 1 -
Castor Fiber, we do have an exception for Traditional Finds, if you don't have many in your country/state. So you are ok to proceed with 1) finding additional cyber/locationless or 2) placing additional Traditional caches to qualify for Level 2. The FTF requirement can be from any cache type and you are the first one to log the cache or you claimed the FTF.20 Points 2

Thanks for the update cash, but I fear I’m not going to make it this year.
Maybe next time…

Hide: One more hide CC27F3.
Found: TC2GS found back in 2012 so it won't count this year. But these 10 are of this year's catches: LCJ, CC7FF, CC7FH, CC7KL, CC7IB, CC7DT, CCZO, CC7FC, CC7FD, CC7F9

Ajoite2, Yes you posted these in the right place. You could have put these on one post, you can also go back and edit these post to show your 3 new members that you have on the site. These can be people that you recently sponsored, just PM them the questions. Congratulations you have Level 1, Level 2, and on Level 3 you only need to post about 3 new members.TSandCS, thank you for joining the Challenge. You will be eligible for a Tshirt Lottery just by joining the Challenge. I saw your recent finds on the home page, way to go.10 Points 1

Updated, Castor Fiber you have all of your finds, you still need a few more hides. To all members please post about 3 new people that you have brought to TerraCaching to complete level 3. This can be people that you just recently sponsored. There is still time to finish all three levels but you will have to hustle. If you run out of time, start planning for 2015 as we will have a similar challenge with 365 days.10 Points 1
-
Way too little time for me to achieve the necessary hides I suspect. But next year I shall definitely give it a proper go. Good luck to all.20 Points 2
-
It's a little late to enter but I'll do it anyway from a table outside the Oasis Cafe in Ajo Arizona with not the fastest internet connection. My last three hides were TC794J, TC5NRO, ANDTC8R96, all in the Death Valley area.20 Points 2

Good Deal WindpumpBoy, dexter, and Yukon Jack. I will add you all to the list. I will also search the site to update your hides and finds. If I miss some, please edit your post to add the waypoint ids. Please let us know how to make the challenge better for 2015. The front page map shows all of those reported so far.Let me introduce on of my first Terracacher for Level 3. This is RatNkids: He joined our community on 11/21/14 and found his first cyber cache by 11/28/14 which was "Know Your Eagle" placed by Castor Fiber. His favorite part about geocaching is "The thrill of the hunt and being introduced to new places." He said there are not many TerraCaches around Minnesota so has been looking over the locationless and cyber caches. I am hopeful he will introduce more TerraCaches in his great State. Please PM him to give him a warm welcome to TerraCaching by clicking his name.20 Points 2

I thought I'd wrap up my Level 3 info for this Challenge by listing three members who joined my downline this year. The first two are new recruits I talked into joining us - dvogel and BobTravLayne. My first recruit this year was dvogel, a work colleague who was stuck in Tonopah, Nevada with me. He went along on a couple drives through the desert, signed up, and has placed a couple caches since that time. His favorite part of caching is going out with his daughter and watching her get excited by finding "treasures" hidden in a box just for her.Number two is BobTravLayne, a dad and two kids. Bob was with me on a field test in the Czech Republic last summer. We did some caching in the Czech Republic and Germany, and he hid several caches over there and since coming home. He says his favorite part is the idea that he can go somewhere he'd never get to otherwise, follow a GPS to some coordinates, and find a container right there that nobody would ever expect to be in that spot. The first cache we did together was a perfect example of that....in a dense clump of woods just a few hundred feet from a Holocaust memorial. I loaned him GPS, he followed the arrow, and when it showed 2 or 3 feet to ground zero, he reached under the leaf mold in a hollow stump and pulled out the container. He also hopes that his kids will like caching, although the pressure of work has kept them from going out until now.The third new sponsoree, TSandCS, is a father/son team new to TerraCaching. They say "What we like most about caching is the spirit of adventure, taking us places we otherwise would pass by without noticing and instead exploring it and appreciating the natural area or unique architectural details. If you ever hear someone say they are bored - loan them a GPSr and improve their life!" I especially love that last sentence.I think that wraps up all the requirements for all three levels. Thanks for reviving this challenge....it got sorta lost in the changeover to the site and all the updates since TC 3 came online.30 Points 3

You for sure are in for the Tshirt lottery. Thanks for joining the challenge. This will give you a taste for 2015. I bet you will have plenty of time to smoke that one.Sir Vayor, I wish you the best of the holidays and and look forward to more caches from you in 2015.Cash0 Points 0

My second sponsoree is rubymoon05, she joined TerraCaching on 9/20/14 and is from Australia /New South Wales and her home city is Glenmore Park. rubymoon05 has been tearing up the cyber caches as all of you can see by watching her finds on Cacher's Action Feed. She is not even stalled when we are missing some pictures. She presses on using the description. She has 48 cyber finds and has moved up to 21.Her favorite part about "Caching is discovering new and interesting places and learning the history about an area. also meeting new people."Send her a private message and welcome her as an active member of TerraCaching. My last person to sponsor during 2014 was seangraham6. He joined TerraCaching on 12/29/14 and is from South Carolina. He is just getting started. I did reach out to him with a PM to get an answer to what he most enjoys about TerraCaching, but am waiting for a response.10 Points 1

Hello all, I just want to update my status as completed. I had a very busy year geocaching in several different games. I have to admit that this challenge definitely got me back into the Terracaching spirit of things. Although there are only a few more days left in calendar year 2014, I do want to grab a couple more terracaches. But I had some free time now and thought I better get this submitted. This year I have hidden 12 traditional and 2 locationless terracaches for Level One. I found 66 traditional, 50 locationless and 2 cyber terracaches for Level Two. I got 6 FTFs (3 LC and 3 TC). Some other noteworthy accomplishments are 1 locationless and 4 traditional caches were worth 200 points at the time I found them. I found terracaches in 7 different states: California, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and North Carolina. Also my non-caching better half (Mrs. sfcchaz as I call her) made her #2,000th geo-based "find" while with me at: Zoar Methodist (TC4UT). I posted a milestone picture of her on that page. She was completely unaware of this and didn't really believe me about the number. But people who know me, know that I keep outrageous notes on everything.
To add to what Cash already supplied above: Hidden: TC94AW, TC7LO8, TC6ZDG, TC4DOG, TC71IU, LC5U28.
I'm still waiting on responses from the one new cacher I did recruit - zepp914 and a few others that I sponsored: keeflester, mongo71 and rubaru. I know zepp914 through the Groundspeak site and I know he enjoys the outdoors and also hiding caches. I actually got FTF one one of his very nice caches: Terminus which is a multi-cache on a nice trail in Catonsville, MD.
Cheers,
Charlie (aka sfcchaz)

An update on Zepp914 - He also states that he likes finding places that he didn't even know existed while his son enjoys moving trackables and watching where they go. He joined on Oct 28, 2014 and is from Catonsville, MD. He joined after I spoke to him at the Halloween Kick Off With Pizza 2014 event that was hosted by DudleyGrunt.10 Points 1

Ho, ho, ho
Put me down
I'll give it a go.
I am late to the game
Which is pretty lame.
But there may be a t-shirt up for a grab
So I'll give it a stab!
10 Points 1 -
There once was an old fart
Who I had carried in a cart.
He has a higher TTPS than me
But that shouldn't be.
We've done all the caches together
But I guess we're not of the same feather.
He signed me up 2 years later
But my current UCR is greater.
This time I'm taking a stance
Put me down for a chance!!

Almost out of time. I have updated the results, please check me. These caches, people, must be in 2014 and this is the last day. We will be looking for late approvals by holiday sponsors, luckily the system counts the post date as the day you submitted the cache for approval. So for those that want to go for it you still have a few hours.sfcchaz, I loved the picture of your wife holding up the sign. I also loved your post. Great Job! Congratulations on all three levels.Trilobite, congratulations on all three levels.SoccerFanatics was our first to complete all three levels. Who will be next. Stay tuned 2015 will have another challenge and the full year to participate.20 Points 2

Please all participants of the Challenge check your results posted above. Also checked out the featured cache section on the map to see where 29 TerraCacher were during 2014. Canada, United States, Guatemala, The Bahamas, United Kingdom, Germany, Czech Republic, Hungary, Denmark, Norway, Australia, and Tasmania. We had over 332 Hides and over 259 finds. This week we are going to start the lottery if I don't hear of any corrections. Once we do this the results will be final.0 Points 0
