Types of Caches

TRADITIONAL

These are caches where the cache owner describes a specific location using coordinates that leads you to a spot that contains a treasure.  Depending on the type of Traditional, the treasure could be the hike or walk itself.

CLASSIC CACHE: leads to a placed object (ammo can, bison tube,  micro, letterbox, etc.) at a specific location. This will normally have a log book and other items or swag. There is at least one physical container or tag.

VIRTUAL CACHE: leads to a site of interest (water fall, mountain peak, statue, Nation Park, grave site, etc.) at a specific location. Many times the confirmation code can be found on a nearby sign. There is no physical container or log book to find.

PUZZLE CACHE: solved a puzzle or decode instructions by the cache owner to find the specific location.  This can lead to a Classic or Virtual cache.

OFFSET CACHE: found by following multiple instructions to a specific location. You may have to go to several waypoints that will lead you to the next set of instructions. The cache can also be offset from the posted coordinates by some distance.  This can lead to a Classic or Virtual Cache.

EVENT CACHE: found by attending on a specific event related to caching (occurs at a specific location).

OTHER CACHE: any type of traditional cache that does not fit into the categories mentioned above.
