TerraCaching Terminology

BISON TUBE
Cache Type
A small metal tube, sometimes used for waterproof pill storage, frequently used to hide a micro sized cache. Dimensions are usually under 1/2" diameter, under 2" length. 

CC
Confirmation Code
An alphanumeric code placed in some caches by the owner to serve as a confirmation that you found it. This discourages cheating. It is also useful in caches too small to hold a logbook of any kind. Make a note of the code when you find the cache and enter it in the appropriate text box when you log your find. See also First Finder's Code

CERTIFIED TERRACACHER
Achievement Badge
A cool badge awarded to a member who has found at least 9 TerraCaches, and placed at least 3 TerraCaches (with an MCE of at least 3.5 and at least one finder each). 

CHARTER MEMBER
Achievement Badge
A badge that denotes premium members that signed up during 2005. 

COMMUNITY PAGE
Website Info
A section of the TerraCaching website that is the knowledge base for all things related to caching and TerraCaching specifically. This section contains all the information necessary to navigate the TC website and get out in the caching world. 

CYBER CACHES
Cache Type
Types of caches unique to TerraCaching that take place solely on a computer or the internet. These caches have their own leaderboard and point system. 

CTPS
Cyber TerraCaching Point System
The scoring system used for Cyber Caches found on TerraCaching. These points are tracked on a separate global leaderboard specifically for Cyber caches. 

DECON KIT
Cache Type
A type of small plastic container that originally held military Decontamination Kits. Decon kits are roughly the size of a large Band-Aid box, with a watertight seal. Frequently used in locations that can't support an ammo box. 

FF
First Finder Code
An alphanumeric code placed in some caches by the owner to serve as a confirmation that you were the first to find, even if you're not the first to log it online. (Also referred to as FTF for First To Find). 

LOCATIONLESS CACHES
Cache Type
Types of caches that can be found in any location in the world. These caches are logged by finding the coordinates to a specified requirement. These caches have their own leaderboard and point system. 

LTPS
Locationless TerraCaching Point System
The scoring system used for Locationless Caches found on TerraCaching. These points are tracked on a separate global leaderboard specifically for Locationless caches. 

MCE
Measure of Cache Excellence
An attempt to mathematically quantify how much the community like a particular cache. Numerous things factor into this including the cache finder ratings and nearby caches and their ratings. 

PREMIUM MEMBER
Website Info
One who has extra features available to them on the site, due to purchasing a premium membership. 

SPONSOR
Website Info
One who vouches for the suitability of another member for ongoing inclusion in the TerraCaching community, reviews and approves their caches, and answers questions. 

SPONSOREE
Website Info
A term used to reference someone sponsored by another member. i.e. Joe doesn't have many sponsorees, but they're all very active players.    

TPS
TerraCaching Point System
A system of scoring caches based on perceived difficulty. Computed by comparing the rate of finders a cache gets over time to that of other caches in the area. 

UCR 
User Contribution Rating 
A score given each member, based predominately on the MCEs of the caches they own. 

WITHDRAW
Website Info
Withdrawing your sponsorship is the method utilized to discontinue sponsoring someone. They are automatically picked up by the Adoption Agency and continue to have full access to the site for four weeks. They must find a new sponsor within that time or risk being dropped tonon-member status with little access to the site.

    Another addition to the list would be "downline".

    There is a definition for Cyber Cache, but none for Traditional or Virtual caches. For brand new folks, they might not understand the differentiation.

    There are definitions for the individual cache points CTPS, LTPS, but TPS should be TTPS to match what is on the web-site.
