Ghost Cache Banishing Project

To address the issue of Ghost Caches, the TC Admins have come up with the following process. Let's all work together to clean up the site of the caches that are no longer present!

  1. Caches subject to removal must meet the following criteria:
    • Two active members log the cache as ‘Missing?’ or ‘Repair Required’. These logs should include a valid attempt to find the cache. If a Certified TerraCacher places the log, then only one log is required.
    • The current Cache Owner does not have sponsors, has not logged on in the past 2 years, or is ignoring requests to repair the cache.
    • An active member has not posted a note that they are going to repair the cache for the current Cache Owner with a timeline for repair.
  2. One of the active members that logged the cache as ‘Missing?’ or ‘Repair Required’ should send an email to [email protected] requesting that the cache be assigned to the Ghost Cache Banishing Project.
  3. TerraCaching Support will send a PM and Email to the Cache Owner regarding the Ghost Cache Banishing Project. If a response is not received within 7 days, the Foster Cache Program will be implemented. If the Cache Owner has not responded to a previous notification then the wait period is waived for their future caches.
  4. The Cache enters the Foster Cache Program:
    • TerraCaching Support will change the Cache’s status to ‘Up for Adoption’ and place a note in the description. The Foster Cache Owner will agree to leave this note in the description.
    • TerraCaching Support will allow 1 week for the cache to be adopted.
    • If the original Cache Owner returns to the site, they will have the option to take their cache back if they so desire. The Foster Cache Owner will agree to allow this to happen.
    • The Foster Cache Owner will post a note log providing a timeline for the cache repair.
  5. If the Cache is not placed with a Foster Cache Owner, the cache will be archived pending the return of the original Cache Owner.
