Please stop me from accidentally deleting my cache logs (and other stupid things I have done)
I wrote to a charter TC member yesterday and told him how it's great that he puts effort and detail in to his logs - lots more than just a 'visited, thanks for the TC". He does some research and adds in the details. Because keeping the quality high goes beyond the hides, it's the finds too. That has encouraged me to do the same, and I just completed a log on a LC with at least 4 paragraphs and 8 photos. Then after posting the log, I went to edit it (because you cannot insert your photos from the log into the text without first posting and then editing - this is something I'd also like to see changed but it's minor annoyance at best).
Anyway, instead of hitting edit, I accidentally hit delete. And it's gone. Now all I have to show for my 20 or 30 minutes of writing is a nice little message "You log has successfully been deleted". Arrrrrrrrg. And this is not the first time this has happened to me. It's happened to me a number of times with logs. I've also lost logs, cache draft and forum posts in the works by accidentally hitting the back button. Some websites will allow you to go "forward" again and your text will reappear. With TerraCaching, no such luck (or at least I've had no luck, using FireFox or Chrome).
Please help me from doing this. It hurts and life is too short to have to repeat yourself twice. Is there anyway for a warning window to first appear? You know the ones, you've seen them on some other websites. Those "confirm navigation" windows, or those "Are you sure you want to do that, you dummy" messages? Please.
If you know the feeling, please "like" this post

This is one of the things different between the original TC and the new, improved TC3. Maybe we need to revert to TC1 for this feature. Used to be that when a log was deleted, it was still visible to the cache owner and the member who posted it. Nobody else saw it. But if something changed that meant it needed to be un-deleted, it was still there.
P.S. Don't feel bad - you're not the first person to delete by accident when meaning to edit.

I have found the best way to prevent the loss is to use notepad first. I will write up the cache page or log using notepad and then copy and paste to the actual TC page. If you accidentally delete something important you will still have a copy to re-copy and paste.

I've fell victim to my own over-zealous clicking and lost some lengthy logs myself.
However, you can insert photos on your first draft if you upload them first.
Upload them, and after it's completed you can right-click on the thumbnail to select the URL. Then insert the URL using the image icon on the tool bar.
After that you can submit the log including the photos all at once, no need to edit.

Is that a new fix JASTA 11? I'm sure I've tried doing that before without success. Worked like a dream today

I tried that yesterday on a cache log and it did not work. I wrote the text, uploaded the photos, copied the image URL ("copy image location"), used the insert photo tool, the photos looked great - hit submit, and watched them disappear.
When you first upload a photo they are assigned a temporary URL; for example:
http://play.terracaching.com/Images/CacheLogs/Temp_27840/22UPclose.JPG?ticks=635851672956830961
compared to this one from a submitted log:
http://play.terracaching.com/Images/CacheLogs/104433/FernieMuseumStreetview2.JPG?ticks=635851673594827481
BUT, next I edited the log and also uploaded one more photo. Interestingly, the new photo was given a permanent URL and not a temporary one:
http://play.terracaching.com/Images/CacheLogs/104433/22UPclose.JPG?ticks=635851674888411708

You are spot on Jason. After reading your comment I looked at my log which had accepted the right click insertion of a photo absolutely fine yesterday and the photo had gone. Just a big blank space and the little "I know you wanted an image here but I can't find it!" icon in the top left corner.

I could have sworn that it was working.

The same thing was happening to me, the picture disappearing and all. So asked someone else to view my logs for the embedded pictures and was told that they were there. I was chalking it up to my browser settings or something like that.
Sorry folks, my bad.

Christa, if you're following maybe you can offer some insight?

I think that it's related to the fact that the log actually hasn't been created yet. So once the log (or post on the community page) has been created, the permanent URL is created. Then the subsequent photos that are uploaded are tied to that post and is given a permanent URL right off the bat. Jason is correct though- that temporary URL is what causes the issue.
I am going to look into that message that alerts you before deleting logs/posts,etc. I know that it pops up on the cache submission page and asks if you want to leave that page (including if you hit the back button). I will see if we can get a similar message on the community posts as well.
Thanks for submitting this idea! I love to hear about the effort being put into the logs, it's so much fun to read them. I think spending the time on logs keeps the community feeling closer- it's sorta like you are going on the adventures with everyone. :)
