Forgotten Terracaches

I made a long trip from home yesterday and had to DNF: A Mound of Ancient Information - TC7KD. Yes, it hadn't been found in 11 years, but it is a virtual, so I felt that it would be available. Well, the site has changed a little over the years and the required sign (CC) is no longer there.

I sent a PM to the owner, but then I looked at the profile page and realized that this owner only has one sponsor currently and hasn't visited the site in almost 10 years.

I also saw another in that area: NELU - On the Tarmac - TCYN. It is a puzzle that has a link to another geocaching site. Long story short, the other site's geocache was archived years back and the cache removed. I did not attempt it, but I did leave a Note on the TC cache page stating that it should also be archived.

How does the community deal with these types of issues? I don't have many near me and I would be frustrated in making these long trips and not be able to log caches. I do understand that preparation is key.

    Hi Chaz,

If you feel that TC7KD is worth 'resuscitating', contact [email protected] and state your case. If you have information that could be used as a new CC, they could update the cache and keep it in play for future finders.

TCYN is a little different. Reading the linked cache page shows that the CO was fed up with the game (at least the game on the evil empire's site) and removed the container. Cross-listing is never a good thing IMO, but it may be that the CO found it too difficult to post the puzzle image on this site - hence the link. That's not the case any longer since Cash and the gang have made it quite simple to create visual and interactive listings.

This cache is a good candidate for The Ghost Cache Banishing Project. That will get the ball rolling to possible archival.

Check out the RESOURCES tab up above for answers to all kinds of questions.
