December Cache Care Days
Looks like nobody has started a threat for December CCDs. I have a bunch to report, so will get it going here. I did a long road trip south this month, and visited quite a few very old Terracaches especially in Tennessee, Alabama, and Mississippi along the way. In many cases, I was the first visitor in 5 or more years. I was able to verify that all the caches below are still active, still with CC available when there is a CC, and in many cases I took pictures to send to the COs and to Cash for possible use as cover photos. Here's my list for December, showing last previous visit, whether I verified the CC, which ones I took cover photos for:

That's a mighty long list of caches you found/visited, wow! I'm curious to know, of the non-virtual traditional caches you visited, approximately how many were found and how many were missing (I'm assuming you replaced any missing caches)? On Christmas Eve I found a cache (listed on OpenCaching North America) placed in 2011 and never logged. I was pretty skeptical about finding it, even more so when I arrived and surveyed the location. But it was there, and when I opened it up and pulled the logsheet I discovered the cache was found last year, but wasn't logged online.

I visited a few caches that were apparently missing, but I did not replace them, because I was not 100% sure they were gone - one example was a small cache planted in a hillside of rocks, so I knew I could have missed the cache after it had been covered with 7 years of leaves and other debris. Another was described by earlier finders as a really tough hide, so again I was not sure it was gone.
But if I was certain it was gone, I did replace a few - one example of that is the one described as next to a dual pine tree. My GPS took me back into dense woods and got me 1 meter from just such a tree, and there were no other examples within at least 30 feet. So, I was really sure I was in the right spot, and the cache was supposed to be large enough that I really couldn't have missed it. And, there were a couple very old, empty beer cans right there, so it was plausible that someone found it and carried it off. Also, I know that cache owner, and was sure he'd want to keep the cache alive.
It amazes me how often well-hidden old caches are still in place. On this trip, I found two caches that were not visited for 9 years and 9 months! Both were right there waiting for me.
